“I wrote the poem Answers for a creative writing assignment and it recieved great acclaim, which is really important because I do NOT write poetry. The unexpected response gave me the stimulus to write what I really thought about and it culminated in this poem. This poem is about my mother’s death from breast cancer, I wrote it around the one year anniversary of her death last year. To me it’s about the impermanence of life and how quickly a promise can be broken and how easy it is to tell a lie instead of the truth. Writing this poem made me feel better, especially knowing that I wasn’t the only one holding this secret anymore.”
